NRFSA 2012 BIG Show Highlights

Inaugural 2012 NRFSA Annual Meeting at the NRF BIG Show Connects Students with Retail Recruiters, Matches Students with Interviews and Internships

Another year, another BIG show.

Recruiters from 16 retail companies and almost 100 students from 14 different universities connected at the 2012 NRFSA Annual Meeting at the NRF BIG Show.

Imagine being able to network with executives at some of the top retail companies in the country --- at one of the biggest retail events of the year. What would you do? NRFSA BIG show attendees made good use of their golden opportunity, with many landing job interviews or internship offers from their efforts. Students also learned from cutting-edge education sessions with retail executives, and saw the latest technologies and solutions in the EXPO hall.

Prior to the BIG Show, students connected with retail recruiters online via the NRFSA LinkedIn Group. Onsite at the NRFSA Annual Meeting, students made in-person connections and distributed their resumes to recruiters. Sunday, January 15, was a jam packed day full day of networking and education events for NRFSA members, including speed networking with students and recruiters, a “Lessons Learned from Internship Challenges and Triumphs” panel discussion and a business meeting for NRFSA members to shape the direction of the organization.

The Retail Talent "Speed Networking" Event included recruiters from:

  • Toys “R” Us
  • Brooks Brothers
  • Sears Holdings Corp.
  • Five Below, Macy’s Inc.
  • Saks Fifth Avenue
  • American Girl Place
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods
  • Kohl’s Department Stores
  • Barnes & Noble
  • Bloomingdale’s
  • The Container Store
  • Walmart
  • Tiffany & Co.
  • CVSCaremark
  • Build-A-Bear
Other highlights included the “Future Faces of Retail” campaign, where selected NRFSA members had their profiles prominently exposed to more than 25,000 retail professionals at the BIG Show and on our Retail Careers Blog. Speaking of blogging, an excellent group of students made up this year's Collegiate Blogging Team, providing us a glimpse of the convention from a student -- and future retailer's -- perspective.

We’d like to issue a BIG thank you to all of our student bloggers, faculty program advisors, retail recruiters, and to our NRFSA members for their hard work and dedication. You rock!

We hope to see you next year when we come back BIGGER and better at the 2013 NRFSA Annual Meeting!
